Fixation device for
self-closing doors
in fire walls
The most effective measure in preventive structural fire protection is the installation of an automatic closing sequence for an area-related door fixation devise. For this reason all sets of rules for the regulations and technical standards of the Landesbauordnung contain specific demands to erect fire walls and fire proof walls.
According to planning and building laws and regulations (DIBt and DIN), closing devises for openings in fire walls are called Feuerschutzabschlüsse (fire protection shutters e.g. fire dampers). Any such devise has to be self closing ( see DIN 18262, DIN 18272 and DIN 18263).
Doors that cannot be constantly left shut have to be equipped with an automatic fixation devise, which closes automatically in the case of fire.
Different designs of fixation devices
Such an automatic fixation devise consists of a fire detector, an activator, a locking devise and power supply.
The fire detector and the activator may be combined with a smoke- and thermo switch. The automatic door-fixation devise is activated by the combined safety switch in the case of fire and the fire proof door is shut automatically. Such installations can be operated without an individual fire alarm system. They are cost effective and the installation is relatively simple.
In case of an already existing fire alarm installation, the fire and smoke detection can be activated via the automatic alarm system. In this case, the activation of the door fixation devise will be turned on by the automatic fire control panel.
G&S has at its disposal a multitude of DIBt-approved door fixation devices, compatible to all major door and gate systems. An aptitude test will certify the required performance of the door fixation devise. The aptitude test is done by the VdS (Verband der Schadensversicherer i.e. the association of insurance covering damages and losses). The aptitude test is done exclusively on complete smoke control panels (door fixation devises).
It is not sufficient that only a part of the installation is approved by DIBt. All the parts belonging to the devise have to be tested and approved as a complete set.
